Taking Rights Seriously

“Taking Rights Seriously”: the title of a famous essay by an equally renowned American jurist, Ronald Dworkin, provides a phrase that captures what I hope and believe is the distinctive attitude of the people who make up this law firm: a tenacious, unwavering determination in defending people’s rights and a tireless commitment to resolving their legal problems.

To this the founder of the firm, Avv. Antonio Simonetto, who established it more than fifty years ago, devoted himself with passion, sensitivity, great intelligence and learning.

The undersigned and his colleagues draw on that example, seeking to make his teaching their own and to carry on his work.

Each of us is aware of the responsibility that the legal profession entails, all the more so today, in a world that is ever more complex and difficult to decipher; but each of us is equally aware of the privilege that practising it represents in itself, for the inexhaustible wealth of human and intellectual stimulus it offers us day after day. For precisely this reason, each of us is prepared to draw fully on our human and professional abilities in order to assert in full the case of those who place their trust in us, and to live up to what being a defender requires.

We bring this approach to every aspect of the firm’s work.

We provide legal advice and assistance, both in and out of court, in all areas of law, and in particular in criminal law and civil law.

Every matter is therefore approached – and saying so is in itself a commitment – with the attention, the availability and the intellectual rigour of those who know that their work affects a part, however small or large, of people’s lives and of the activities of individuals and businesses; always seeking the best solution and the most effective means of protecting the client.

Criminal law and civil law

The range of expertise we have acquired and the experience we have gained enable us to address our clients’ questions and problems in a complete and comprehensive way.

Every solution we propose takes account of the wider context in which it is set, through an examination that considers each individual legal aspect within an overall view of the various areas of law, so that a narrowly sectoral analysis does not overlook the consequences, whether positive or negative, that each choice may have on the client’s overall position, in the short and the long term.

Criminal law

The firm, and in particular Avv. Pierpaolo Simonetto, defends individuals, companies and organisations (whether as suspects or defendants, or as victims of crime) at every stage of criminal proceedings and trial: from the preliminary investigation and the preliminary hearing, through special procedures (plea bargaining, summary trial, etc.) and the trial itself at all three levels of jurisdiction, to the enforcement of sentences.

In this context, we also carry out such defence investigations as may be appropriate.

Avv. Pierpaolo Simonetto is entered on the list of lawyers authorised to act under the state-funded legal aid scheme (patrocinio a spese dello Stato). He is therefore able to assist and represent anyone whose income falls within the limits set by law, as shown in their most recent tax return and taking into account the income of the entire household.

The firm has developed specific expertise in several areas:

  • offences against the family;
  • offences against the person;
  • offences against property;
  • corporate, insolvency and tax offences;
  • economic, business and employment-related criminal law in general;
  • offences relating to professional and medical liability;
  • corporate liability under Legislative Decree no. 231/2001;
  • road traffic offences;
  • offences under the Consolidated Act on narcotic drugs;
